John Gillow – Author, Lecturer and Collector

FLEWS is delighted to welcome as our guest speaker on 11th June at 2.15 pm John Gillow . Many of you will be familiar with his passion for textiles, however, if you’re not and would like to know a little more, his life and passion for textiles began at the age of 17 in Istanbul. Author, lecturer and collector, John has spent more than 40 years travelling the world in pursuit of textiles, and sharing his finds with textile lovers all over the world. Besides travelling through remote and sometimes unstable or war-torn areas, he has written an array of beautifully illustrated books on the subject, including World Textiles, Textiles of the Islamic World, Indian, African and Indonesian Textiles to name but a few. Describing himself as a ‘working traveller’, John is also a dealer specialising in unique, vintage and collectable textiles and costumes from around the world.
